Similar belts were once worn with traditional ethnic costumes throughout parts of the Balkans, Turkey, the Middle East, and Central Asia. These are great examples of traditional tribal folk art worn by peasants, not to be confused with fine urban jewelry. Since the belts are old, they are not perfect. The cloth fabric bases have been replaced over time and there is general wear and aging to the metal ornaments and buckles. There is some occasional green tarnish to a few of the metal elements and they are generally patinaed and dusty. Some small pieces of metalwork are broken off or loose. A few of the faux-gems are missing. Two of the belts are missing the hook loops at the ends. Nonetheless, given their age and history the belts still looks nice and will be an interesting addition to any collection of tribal art or ethnic jewelry.
Great decorator pieces that instantly create the atmosphere of an Arabic souk! The belts measure around 36" long from end to end, plus or minus 2".I don't know the metal content, but if there is any silver it is very low grade consistent with tribal jewelry traditions. Don't pass up this unique opportunity to add four historic belts to your collection.
