A rare Tuareg sabre (sword) Sahara area, 18th 19th century

A rare Tuareg sabre (sword) - Sahara area, 18th 19th century. Single edged curved blade, probably imported from Europe.

The blades retains partially the traditional moon, sun and stars (but it is hardly visible). Grip and guards made of ox horn with brass nails. Scabbard is made of wood covered with copper alloy and leather. As this sabre was displayed many years without its scabbard, it is very difficult to store the blade inside the scabbard and even more difficult to take it out. The scabbard is in very poor condition.

The guard and grip have a slight movement. The pommel is strongly attached to the blade, no movement.

Length without scabbard 107cm (42). Blade length 88,5cm (34 3/4 in). Weight without scabbard 860gr (30,3oz).
