Antique Brass Table LampMiddle EasternPersianCalligraphyPiercedEtched

Persian Middle Eastern Islamic Moroccan. This is a rare, uniquely shaped and beautiful, antique brass table lamp with amazing pierced work and etched Islamic calligraphy. I believe it was originally a censor that has been converted to a lamp. It holds 1 standard base-sized bulb. The overall height, including finial is 22.

The height to the top of the dome is 18. At its widest, the lamp measures 10 1/2 in diameter. The base of the lamp measures 6 1/2 in diameter. The diameter of the dome is 10 1/4" and is 6" in height, minus the finial. The cord is approximately 6' long. 4 pounds 6 1/2 ounces. I wish I knew more about this lamp: How old it is, where it originally came from, and etc... All I can say is that I picked it up at an estate sale in the Hollywood Hill, in California, many years ago.

It came from one of the original houses in the Hills that was built in the 1920's. At the time, the lamp had some dings and dents in it.

I took it to a musical instrument shop where they de-dented it. Since then, I've used it in many rooms: In the Living Room, in the Study, and in the Dining Room on a sideboard. I even once used it as a nightlight in a Bedroom when a niece came to visit. Bottom line, it makes for great mood lighting and conversation. There are two short tears on the edge of the base, about 1 apart. One is about 1/2 long and the other less than an inch. I believe these were made intentionally as an area for the cord to go through so the lamp wouldn't sit crooked or wobble. I've always had them turned to the backside and they are (for the most part) unnoticeable. There are no other tears.

Also, please see from the photos, the cord has been taped near the on/off switch. I did this a few years ago as the wires were showing. This could easily be fixed or replaced. The picture don't do this lamp justice. It's an impressive size, has a beautifully lustred patina, and has a very unique shape.

The etched calligraphy is masterfully done, and this lamp casts amazing light patterns. And please, check out my other items for sale.. You never know what you might find at Aunti Q's.
