It is a late 19th century Damascene work pottery. Made from Bronze and Copper with the typical Damascene inlay work of silver Decorative elements that include Arab writing and depicts the conversation of three figures in the center. Originally made in Syria and then brought to Israel were it has been , mostly in private hands, for over 70 years. The form of this teapot is quite unusual and is possibly a very limited production in not one of a kind. However being hand worked there are no exact teapots as such. The teapot is very solid and weighs over 4kg (4185 grams - approx 9lb & 3.6oz). Stands 52.5 cm (approx 20.5") with the drum shaped body reaching a diameter of 26cm (approx 10")Base in diameter is 13cm(approx5") and the thickness of the body is 11cm(approx 4")maximum width - 35cm(approx 14).

It is worth noticing that the lower part of the handle is detached from body of teapot. Please notice also the connection between body and neck has a somewhat rough welding area - this is probably the way it was done and is guaranteed to be so for the last 70 years. In the 19th and early 20th Century, when such metal works where made, was a time of revival of the old Mameluke style. Metal smiths and artists worked to resurrect the Mameluke style. Both in Europe and among the Muslims grew an interest in such craftsmanship.

The craftsmen inlaid softer metals such as silver and gold , into harder metals commonly copper and Brass but also into coarser metals. Such items exemplify the Mameluke revival period, taking ordinary metal and inlaying it to create an impressive and high-status item. Some items where produced in larger quantities than others but being all hand made and needing long hours of intentional work never reached a large production volume and examples such as this teapot are rare of which a limited amount of the kind where produced. Lower part of Handle is detached from Body - it can be re-welded or glued however we sell it as is.
