1170 Persian Silver Incense Burner. A 19th century Persian or possibly Indo-Persian silver reticulated incense burner. These items were used for burning scented resins such as frankincense which was thought to have medicinal purposes as well as giving a pleasant fragrance. This example is bell shaped and has a tight floral design with scrolls and three feet. There is a latch plate and loop to allow locking if required (no lock present).
To the top it is mounted with a bird which has a hanger in the mouth with small balls. The lid opens with a hinge. To the underside it is marked for silver and the grade, 900.
