A large late 19th or early 20th century Persian style vase which takes it's design from the Kashan heritage. This example appears to have been produced at Safi (Morocco) which was known to make and export the Persian style during the later 19th and into the 20th century.
Lovely turquoise ground with black patterns and blue spots. It has a thick glaze over the soft earthenware body typical of this region.
It is also signed to the base in local Arabic which adds extra interest. Nice vibrant colours and the large size ensures this item will stand out on display. Slight glaze losses around the rim and foot rim. Some kiln frit in places and minor potting and glaze flaws as is normal for these items which were hand made and fired in relatively uncontrolled furnaces. Period crazing to the glaze.Height: 33 cm (13 inch). Width: 18 cm (7 inch). Weight: 2170 grams (before packing).
