Big Silver & Copper Inlaid Qalamdan Pen Box. Egypt or Syria, 19th Century.
Unusual Large and Extremely Heavy Mamluk or Mosul style Qalamdan Scribe box. A stunning decorative piece with hinged lid lifting to reveal fitted interior with Arabic calligraphy and Islamic motifs. Various compartments, profusely inlaid with silver and copper. Three circular cartouches on the lid with inscriptions on the zig-zag background.
I nscriptions on the sides interspersed with vegetal interlace. Antique condition, very nice patina. 30 x 10,5 x 10,5 cm. Weight: 4,9 kg without packing!!
