LARGE SUPERB ANTIQUE LATE 19thC MAMLUK REVIVAL SILVER INLAY CAIROWARE EGYPT BOWL. A fine Cairoware Mamluk Revival silver-inlaid brass bowl of typical compressed form with rounded base, heavily inlaid with silver, on a densely textured copper and brass ground, likely originating from Egypt, and dating to the late 19th century.Two opposing areas of Thuluth inscription link to two further geometric patterned areas, separated by four quatrefoil shaped panels. Thin bands of small florets and leaves separate the foliate arabesques above and below. During the second half of the 19th century, travelling Europeans began to collect Islamic art. Enterprising dealers began making metal works for the tourist trade. These pieces are known as Mamluk Revival. Cm or 7 7/8 inches (at widest point)/ 14 cm or 5 1/2 inches (at rim). 9.8 cm or 3 7/8 inches.
In good antique condition, with some minor areas of loss to the silver and copper inlay, otherwise only light age related wear.
