Being offered is a very nice old antique Battle Axe that is most likely Indian to Central Asian in origin. This axe measures 22 in total length. Heavy axe head with a square hammer head to the back and then a crescent shaped axe head with old gold koftgari remaining in places. The axe head has a dark patinated surface with pitting and approximately 50-60% of the original koftgari is remaining. Has a nice metal nut to the top of the axe head with a floral decoration at the base of it.
The axe head is most probably Damascus or wootz steel but unfortunately it is not in good enough polish to ascertain. The block hammer head on the reverse measures 1 5/8" by 1 1/2". The axe head is 3" long as measure from the shaft and it is 4" at its widest point.
Lovely all steel handle with a beautiful chevron pattern the entire length of the shaft. This is a good early fighting axe and would date to the 18th century.
