Ottoman Curtain From Tomb Of Prophet Sultan Abdul Hamid II (1876) 19th Century

A museum worthy relic made after a. N Important curtain from the tomb of the Prophet (hujrat al-qabr al-nabawi al-sharif) in Medina. Ottoman, period of Sultan Abdul Hamid khan Alghazaa. Made of rectangular form, the black silk ground applied with red and pistachio silk panels, embroidered with silver and silver-gilt metal threads with cartouches and roundels filled with inscriptions framed by wreaths, garlands, acanthus scrolls and ribbons.

A dedication to the Sultan Abd El Hamid khan Alghazaa can be seen clearly. The Inscriptions are as follows. In the top row, far right: "La illaha illa Allah". In the top row, far left: "Muhammad Rasul Allah". In the top row, middle: "Arsilat Allah Bialhudana wadin alhaqi".

In the top rectangular Cartouche: "Wal'awla i'idh dakhalt Janatak qult ma sha' allah la quat i'illa billah". In the green cartouches: "Adkuluha bisalam aminin allah nur alsamawat wal' ard i'inaa fatahna lak fathana mubinana". In the bottom red rectanglular cartouche: alsalat walsalam ealayk ya min zinat allah. In the roundel below: A saying of the Prophet. In the six roundels: The names of Abu Bakr,'Umar,'Uthman,'Ali, Hasan and Husayn.

In curved cartouche and the one below it: Qur'an, sura al-Ahzab (XXXIII), 45-7. At the bottom two green roundrels and the tughra of the Sultan: " Ya rahmun ya rahim ya haa ya quyum alsultan eabd alhamid khan alghazaa" (1842 - 1876).
