This beautiful paper mache qalamdan is from the 19th ct. Both sides and the top side have arabic writings in black on a golden colored ground. On top there are pictures of different persons. The picture in the middle is quite good to identify as a boy.
The first one on the outer end looks like two women and one man standing. And the other one, a child holding a baby. There are filigran ornaments and fine flowers around the writings and pictures. Inside is an inkwell, two reed pens and one little spoon. Travellers (most of the calligraphers could be counted as a traveller) couldn't carry around any liquid ink.
So they used soot and mixed it with water for making ink. For this reason they needed a little spoon. Please visit my other auctions. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me. This is a private sell, with no guarantee, no return accepted.
