A very nice example of the Russian Caucasian or possibly Ottoman Shashka saber dating from the 1800s era and wearing a much earlier blade which is most likely to date from the 17th to 18th century, having a slightly raised false edge area as well as the raise lower section of the spine with grooved lower spine and very cool figural work to the tip area, multi grooved on both sides, each marked with a series of X-like markings and Gurda jaws to one side possibly indicating on the very desirable Venetian maker of the 17th century. Blade exhibits nice rich gray patina evenly distributed throughout its length. Lovely Niello decorated mounts of lower grade silver, showing wear consistent with age and service, with its traditional split eared pommel solid metal hilt and original wooden scabbard having releathered finish. Slight play to the hilt, otherwise in very nice condition for the age and amount of service this quick and deadly weapon once provided for fearless owner of either Caucasian or Turkish origin.
