Rarest Islamic Tray Mamluk Cairoware Arabic Script Shows 1812 Made In Damascus
An Important, Stunning & Rare Hand Hammered Mamluk Revival Brass Tray with Arabic Calligraphy With Salutations to the Sultan, With Script Stating the tray is Made in Damascus, Syria in the year 12. Incredibly Rare Central Interweaving Mamluk Motif Heraldic Band. The Rim with very early 1700's or 1800's geometric patterns. Late 1700's / Early 1800 Damascus. Historically interesting tray which the likes of I have never seen before. The tray is rare in that the central interlocking heraldic band is very unusual in how it splits the tray. Usually the Mamluk trays were geometrically made in tripartite or quarterly fashion. The work on the rim I have seen before on Islamic metalwork from the late 1700's / early 1800's. The tray is dated 12 and I believe this is either Gregorian calendar 1812 or 1212 Hijri. All in all a rare tray which stating it was made in the early era of the revival period and in Damascus. You will not see one of these again in a long time! Please see all the 12 ENLARGED pictures. Condition is good for its age.
