This stunning antique Kashmir silver wine ewer or claret jug stands 320mm (12.5") high x 115mm (4.5") and weighs an impressive 1034 grams or over 33 troy ounces. It is marked to the base (photo10&11) and tests as sterling silver with the acid blood red on contact and dates to around the 1870's.It was produced in North India Kashmir and has a very detailed repousse work of dense intertwined branches of Chinar bearing fruits and leaves with the handle in the form of a snake. The detail to the leaves and fruit is extraordinary and the whole piece has a fantastic quality feel about it and was clearly made by a highly skilled silversmith.
