An Indo-Persian sipar, early 19th century. Circular, iron shield convex at the centre; with a brass strengthening band at the margin; at the front surface a round cartouche featuring an inscription in Persian, surrounded by effigy of noblemen, demons and other mythical figures, all around racemes (flower clusters) and animals; at the external margin a band with cartouches featuring inscriptions. With four studs, one has a small hole from age. At the inside small loops for the handles and a plastic enforced wire for hanging. Diameter: 18.5 inches / 47 cm.
Depth: 3.5 inches / 9 cm. The piece is great fun to view because of its rich decoration.
Some of the decor still shows gold lining that has mostly worn off from age.
