A well made vintage Polish Karabela sword with eagle-shaped handle and hand-forged and fullered blade with etched on both sides Latin inscriptions: Arma Ferunt Pacem - a Latin term for In Arms, Peace; and Soli Deo Gloria - for Glory to God Alone. The grips are carved wood. The crossguard is cast brass finely engraved on the right side. The blade is sturdy, large and heavy, nicely fullered and tapered with well defined Kilij style yelman. The blade's edge is dull near the handle and remains dull while slightly edging toward the tip.
This is a high quality hand-crafted ceremonial/display vintage sword dating to the mid/late 1900's, not a battle weapon. Please see all images for details.Size : Overall length is 94 cm (37 inches). The handle is 12.5 cm (5).
