19th C Antique Syrian Hand Carved Octagonal Wood Tea Table/mother Of Pearl Inlay

FINE MIDDLE EASTERN MID-LATE 19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE SYRIAN HAND CARVED with INTRICATE DESIGN OCTAGONAL WOOD TEA TABLE/MOTHER OF PEARL INLAY & CARVED ARABIC CALLIGRAPHY on UPPER, DELICATELY CARVED SIDE PANELS. Untouched & undisturbed, with three missing pieces. Of mother of pearl inlay. Syrian (Middle Eastern) hand carved wooden furniture & decorative accessories, with intricate mother.

15" Height x 12 14" Top Width x 9 12 Base Width. Offered for your consideration and review is this very clean and simply fabulous mid-late 19th century, completely hand carved and hand decorated Syrian Middle Eastern small octagonal tea table in beautiful, rich, deeply toned oiled local hardwood. Arabic cursive script is hand carved and appears on each and every top third of the eight side panels. The recessed top interior wood basin is lovely, with intricate chip carving and central mother of pearl eight (8) spoke star, perhaps a reference to the omniscience and omnipotent centrality of God (Allah) in Islam, with emanating, successive rings and rays of light surrounding and traveling outward toward the edges of the top's interior basin, much like the twinkling light from a nighttime star or mimicking the near blinding and flickering rays of the sun. The patterning is wholly and entirely in the Islamic decorative arts tradition, in that there's a persistent symmetry of design and balance throughout the form.

As in the universe, Islamic artists and artisans and in this case, a wood carver, sought to mimic and to celebrate equilibrium and balance, as was seen created by God in the entire universe. There are only three (3) missing small pieces of mother of pearl on the entire tea table. No attempt has been made to replace them with similar pieces of cut mother of pearl. The entire tea table largely remains as it was discovered, once covered in dust and cobwebs and only gently cleaned and oiled to remoisturize the wood and allow the viewer to again see and behold its splendid, nearly impossibly carved surfaces. Very fine and extraordinarily beautiful.
