Pair of Beautiful 19th Century Persian Hand Painted Porcelain Huqqa (Hookah) bases featuring portraits believed to be of Persian Qajar King Nasr al-Din Shah Qajar. Can be used as a hookah bases or as a charming pair of vases and conversation pieces. Photos one and two show base 1 and base 2, side-by-side with base 1 on the left. The porcelain huqqa (or hookah) bases feature a slightly flared bell-shaped base with a cylindrical stem.
The huqqa is crafted from white porcelain and finely painted with stylised deep blue vines, leaves and rosettes. Details of these decorations are parcel gilt, creating reflective gold highlights. Each also features half-length portraits of possibly Naser al-Din Shah, the king of Persia in the Qajar period. These are set within gilt medallions. On each, different portraits decorate the fronts and backs of the bases. Items are believed to be Middle Eastern or of Continental, possibly Russian or German origin, likely created in the late 19th Century for the Persian market, possibly on commission for a Persian dignitary.Photos one and two are of the two bases side-by-side. Photos three through 9 are of base 1.
Remaining photos are of base 2. Please message me if you are interested in purchasing only one of the bases.
