Antique 19th c. Persian Qajar Lacquer Papier Mâché Panel Mirror Case Hunting

This outstanding and very finely painted large antique Persian 19th century-Qajar dynasty papier mache lacquer panel was most likely a mirror case cover and was subsequently converted to a portable writing pad cover. The panel has the most wonderfully intense glowing copper-gold base and has been painted with a highly detailed hunting scene with superb action as horses and riders, dogs, antelopes, hares and foxes run all over the painting with trees, rocks and flowers wherever you look. The panel has a nice floral Persian border and the reverse has a wonderful gold scrolling painting on a black lacquer ground. The panel has been attached with a glued strip of leather to the reverse edge. The panel measures approximately 17 x 11 inches. The panel-front and back-is in great condition with general wear and a few small areas of rubbing. There is no damage or evidence of repairs or in-painting under a black light. There is some minor lacquer loss to the top edge. The writing pad underneath has seen better days. Thanks for looking and please check out my other items!
