Antique Algerian (Kabyle) flissa sword (yatagan shape) - Algeria 18th 19th century. The blade is yatagan shape. The blade is engraved both sides and there is also brass inlaid.
The handle is carved wood figuring a lion or chimera head. The wooden grip was originally covered with brass sheets, but there is not anymore (the handle only remains some very few pieces of brass). This special shape for flissa is well known but rare. Usually the blade of flissa swords is long and thin.
The wooden grip has damages. The 2 wooden plates of the grip has slight movement, but it is strongly attached. Length 74,5cm (29 1/4 in).Blade length 62cm (24 1/2 in). Weight 542gr (19,1 oz). Don't hesitate to have a look at my other items.
