A very fine knife from Bosnia & Hertzegovina, mid 1800's Ottoman Empire. Of much larger than usually encountered size, with robust 21.5 cm (8.5 inches) straight single edged blade.
Total length when in scabbard is 37 cm (14.5 inches). The scabbard is 25 cm (10). The handle is 12 cm (4.75). The blade is of fine laminated/layered damascus pattern with heat treated cutting edge. The grips are nicely carved bovine bone inlaid with brass roundels and incised circles and brass studs.
It is rare to find the eared grips like this being fully intact. The scabbard is wood covered with brass. In very good antique condition with a few splits to the scabbard edges and minor nicks on the cutting edge. Please see all images for details.
