Exquisite Ornamental Pierced Islamic Geometric Metal Work. Nineteenth Century through the Twenties when these shades - with dangling glass beaded fringe - were the rage in home decor after the discovery of.
You can see them in old Mummy movies of that era. In great condition - except for one point at the very top, none of the piercing is broken. However, there seems to be no way to attach this shade to a standing lamp because it has nothing inside for any attachment purpose.
It can be used as a hanging lantern though. I have used it over the years as an upside down basket for peacock feathers or artificial flowers and have never used it as a shade. Covered all over with complicated Arabic geometrical pierced designs. The pierced cartouches are all geometrically different - no two are the same. No dents - no broken metal except for one point at the top edge - see photos. Only 7 inches tall but when it hung on a lamp in the twenties there must have been another 5 inches or more of glass beaded fringe sewn onto the pointed edges all around it.It is 11" in diameter at bottom and 3" diameter at the narrow top. The underside is in need of polishing - see photos. This is from a huge collection of items from my father's shop in Brooklyn which closed several decades ago.
