This is an awesome Middle Eastern Antique 925 Marked Silver incense burner. I cannot date it but it is old. The incense is lit, inserted from the bottom and the smoke emerges from the top. The purpose of the Chain and small Ball is to hold the burner at a distance and cause it to sway without coming into direct contact with the heated incense burner.
The object depicted on the top of the burner is a representation of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. This one is square and with great design and very intricate detail. I describe the pattern as Islamic because of the Dome and the crescent moon which is displayed throughout the item. What appears to be a W' is actually the Hebrew symbol for 1 I have been informed.
This is a rare piece. I do not see it on Google or other online sites. Chain and end cap is 4 1/2.
