Stunning Large 67cm Islamic Brass Tray Inlaid with Silver & Copper Adorned with Kufic & Thuluth Arabic Calligraphic Cartouches With Superbly Engraved Foliates , Flowers Interlaced geometric patterns and detailed with Arabesques and Repetitive Patterns. Calligraphy Also On the Rim. A Must for Collectors Of Cairoware , Mamluk Revival , Persian & Islamic Art in General. 1900's Damascus / Cairo.

The technique of silver and copper inlay was revived in the late 1700's and 1800's in the Islamic world. The process is difficult and requires several stages of mastery. Indeed after the item has been cast or hammered into shape it is then covered in the calligraphy and patterns. After this difficult stage the brass/bronze is carved & engraved by hand. Finally the silver and copper is hammered into the carved areas.

A nice large tray with beautiful Kufic calligraphy as well as Thuluth. The tray is a quality piece and has calligraphy also on the rim (most trays just have patterns).
