BRONZE GRIFFIN OIL LAMP Original Ancient Persian Islamic Antique Polished

Bronze GRIFFIN Figure Oil Lamp. (One of Two I currently have listed). This is one of the nicest items I found so far here in Afghanistan!

This amazing Bronze Griffin Sculpture Polished to its. Original Luster measures over 11 inches long and is over 10 inches tall. The lamp is filled via the raised opening on the Griffins back and the wick is inserted via the opening on the Griffins chest. This item is just plain Cool. Believed to be 200+ years old, this item was recently unearthed in Bamyan province of central Afghanistan.

It was so caked full of mud when I first saw it that I did not realize the wonder details of the head and the beauty of the wings and tail or this mythical creature. This Griffin Sculpture, or the PAIR, would make for wonderful conversation pieces in any home and could also certainly be used as originally intended...

As a beautiful oil lamp! This incredibly Beautiful ancient Bronze oil lamp was certainly once owned by a very wealthy individual or even used in an area such as a mosque for both its beauty and light. The craftsmanship of this piece would have certainly put this item out of the financial reach of the regular citizen. This Griffin Sculpture oil lamp is truly a piece of artwork that will stand out in any setting. With the present danger here in Afghanistan, the antique shops have all closed and the only remaining place for the population to sell their family treasures is to the local antique merchants who in turn come to guys like me who love ANTIQUES.

Specialized Bronze artisans produced items such as this who century's ago were. Already well-versed in the bronze casting process both by mold and wax, an integral part of their artistic production in bronze. And in the military since 1976!!
