An early 19th century Ottoman Empire Turkish Yataghan, single edged slightly curved 57cm blade both sides with decorative script, decorated brass bolster, wrapped with cord, the hilt of 2 marine scales attached by 4 pins, the decorated brass strip around the top and bottom of the hilt set with corals, some restoration needed, hilt scales loose, blade rusted and pitted, the script reads MADE BY MEHMED. OWNER MALIK HASSAN AGHA, contained in the original wooden brass covered scabbard with decorative animals head tip, the center of the scabbard wrapped in leather, scales loose, overall 77cm.

An Agha is an Officer of the Janissaries. A Jannisarie was a member of the Turkish Infantry forming the Sultans Guard between the 14th and 19th centuries.
