EARLY 20TH CENTURY MIDDLE-EASTERN ANTIQUE HANDMADE, RETICULATED & INCISED BRASS INCENSE BURNER, W/SIDEWALL SGRAFFITO, ARABIC SCRIPT TYPOGRAPHY, CRESCENT. MOON LID PULL, on TRIPOD STAND.
Pre-WWII Middle Eastern & North African hand made brass metalware & decorative accessories. 9 ½" Height x 4 ½" Width x 4 ½ Height without lid on.
Offered for your review and consideration is this extremely ornate and highly decorative early 20th century Middle Eastern or North African, Islamic reticulated brass incense burner, with Arabesque domed lid, crescent moon lid pull, resting on a tripod leg assembly. The sidewalls of the upper body or lid cover of the piece have reticulated, cut-out surfaces. The lower body has solid sidewalls that aren't reticulated.
Both the upper and lower body share incised, sgraffito mark-making, arabic cursive script typography and bas-relief, sculptural brass surfaces. The entire piece sits atop a tripod brass leg assembly. This was most likely not an object produced for the international marketplace but rather for domestic and home use.
It's too particularly detailed and has a high level of decorative treatment. The brass still has its original, naturally aged brass patina and hasn't been chemically polished or skinned. A very fine Middle Eastern antique artifact and metalsmithing. Good to Very Good overall vintage condition.
