Stunning , Heavy, Quality , Thick Silver & Copper Inlaid Arabic Islamic Mamluk Revival Bowl With Four Calligraphic Cartouches Alternating With Medallions, Interspersed With Arabesques. Superb Engravings On The Brass Behind The Silver Too!! A Must for Collectors Of Cairoware , Mamluk Revival , Persian & Islamic Art in General. The technique of silver and copper inlay was revived in the late 1700's and 1800's in the Islamic world.
The process is difficult and requires several stages of mastery. Indeed after the item has been cast or hammered into shape it is then covered in the calligraphy and patterns. After this difficult stage the brass/bronze is carved & engraved by hand. Finally the silver and copper is hammered into the carved areas.
A rare beautiful well proportioned quality bowl where the thick copper accents really bring out the silver inlay and the work on the brass is stunning and early style.
