This tray dates from early 1900's, around 1930. There is a very interesting design to the centre of the tray.
There is a highly detailed silver inlay medallion - however there are four crowns within the design. Not sure of the story behind this, but could be very interesting / important. There are three absolutely breathtaking bands of Thuluth style Arabic calligraphic script circling around the tray, separated by Arabesque motifs.
The outer rim has been inlaid with further geometric and arabesque style silver inlay work along with more Arabic script. Look out for the little birds inlaid with silver. They have been very cleverly integrated into the design. A lot of people miss them! The quality is among the finest you will come across. This type of work demonstrated the finest style of Mamluk Revival ware you will see. There is further Arabic script finely inlaid with silver around the edge along with beautiful arabesque motifs.
There is hand chased detailing all over the tray, completed flawlessly. Overall, this is a magnificent tray, of the highest quality. The diameter of the tray is 32.5cm = 12.8 inches. The tray is in excellent condition. Please see the photos shown above.
