Important: Please read all the text and see photos to understand this masterpiece!! A True MONUMENTAL HUGE PALACE SIZED 91cm Diameter Fine Hand Hammered Mamluk Revival Brass Tray with THREE Arabic Calligraphic cartouches containing Mamluk Salutations Surrounded By A LARGE Band of the Most Beautifully Hand-Hammered Calligraphy With Arabesques and Mamluk Motifs. 1800's Damascus or Cairo.

The Mother of all trays!! This stunning tray is not only big but it is truly beautiful.

The calligraphy is written by probably one of the best calligraphers in Damascus or Cairo in the 1800's who were available to the workshops. Please remember many of the workshops who did work on brass or silver inlay were not willing to pay the master calligrapher as he would have been the most expensive craftsman in the process of making the tray which involved several craftsmen at different stages.

Many of the workshops usually just used made-up Arabic writing or used rudimentary sayings etc and even though some of the work could be incredibly fine, it inevitably had very little meaning as the workshop owners were trying to maximise profit and did not want to pay extra for genuine calligraphy to be used. However, when the items were made for the local Arab population the workshops had little choice but to employ a master calligrapher and as I mentioned this was the most expensive craftsman. That is why , when skillful calligraphy which has meaning is written, you know it came from one of the better workshops of Damascus or Cairo. A truly glorious tray from our private collection. There are not many around at this size and we don't like to part with many large ones out of our collection. Get it whilst you can! Make sure you have the space to display this superb piece!
