You will find similar paintings listed in my other auctions. A Man preparing Paan, After Govardhan.

Ink with light pigments on paper. Painting: 14 x 7.5 cm. Folio: 20.5 x 11 cm. This drawing is a copy of a well known painting of Shaikh Hosein Jami and an Attendant (Musee Guimet, Paris) by the Mughal master painter Govardhan.

The original painting in the Guimet is probably an amalgam of two, once separately conceived compositions. The 18th century artist has chosen to copy only the "attendant" who is shown. Jama untied, preparing areca nut for.

Box beside him and a lota just in front. In the background we see his modest home with a makeshift log fence surrounding it. The later work is faithful to the original, though the composition is in reverse. The other work has only been included for comparison. Item is guaranteed to be authentic.
