Large Antique 19th Century Ottoman Iznik Wool Work on Cotton Embroidery, Suzani. A superb large antique embroidered panel; chainstitch wool work on heavy cotton linen.

Dating to the 19th century and believed from my research to be of Ottoman / Iznik origins. A truly stunning piece, all handworked in a bright palette - the colours remain extremely good.

Comprised of two long stitched panels. Had been converted for use as a curtain in the late 19th /early 20th century and retains a little associated stitching / traces of stitching. Generally very good strong original condition; unwashed/uncleaned as acquired. Fabric is age darkened throughout; uniform colouration, apart from the very edges. Embroidery Losses only to outermost border trims.

Some discreet traces of later (probably machine) stitching to edges as mentioned above. 94" (239cm) x 49.5" (126cm) Approx 1kg.
