LARGE Islamic Brass Bowl Inlaid with Silver & Copper Adorned with Kufic & Thuluth Calligraphy , Thick Silver Medallions Inlaid With Copper Motifs , Birds , All Amongst Flowers Interlaced geometric patterns and detailed with Arabesques and Repetitive Patterns. A Must for Collectors Of Cairoware , Mamluk Revival , Persian & Islamic Art in General. The technique of silver and copper inlay was revived in the late 1700's and 1800's in the Islamic world. The process is difficult and requires several stages of mastery. Indeed after the item has been cast or hammered into shape it is then covered in the calligraphy and patterns.
After this difficult stage the brass/bronze is carved & engraved by hand. Finally the silver and copper is hammered into the carved areas. Please look carefully at the large silver medallions which are inlaid with copper. A lot of silver has gone into this bowl and it was probably a bit more expensive in its time. THIS IS A HEAVY & LARGE BOWL!! Please see all the 12 ENLARGED pictures.Engravings all present absolutely minimal wear if any. 10 inches (26 cm) widest point diameter.
