Please note: Due to Christmas and New Year holidays deliveries will be considerably delayed!!! Beautiful , Large, 64cm Islamic Brass Tray Inlaid with Silver & Copper Adorned with a Central Arabesque. Surrounded by Stunning Sublime Incredibly Finest Written Calligraphy , Which is in turn Encased by Six Large Thick Thuluth Cartouches, All against a background of Superbly Engraved Y Patterns , Interlaced geometric patterns and detailed with Arabesques and Repetitive Patterns.

A Must for Collectors Of Cairoware , Mamluk Revival , Persian & Islamic Art in General. 1900's Damascus / Cairo. The technique of silver and copper inlay was revived in the late 1700's and 1800's in the Islamic world. The process is difficult and requires several stages of mastery. Indeed after the item has been cast or hammered into shape it is then covered in the calligraphy and patterns.

After this difficult stage the brass/bronze is carved & engraved by hand. Finally the silver and copper is hammered into the carved areas. A stunning and rare tray with superb and incredibly fine silver Arabic script. The large thick thuluth cartouches contrast vividly with the stunning slimmer calligraphy and if you can read Arabic you will agree that the writing is sublime. Other pieces of silver inlay may be fine with regards to figures and flowers and geometrics however calligraphy is the true test of the silver inlayer's art. If you are a collector of silver inlaid pieces you will have noticed that the larger trays are becoming harder to come across. GET THEM WHILST YOU CA N!!!!!
