NICE OLD ANTIQUE SAUDIA ARABIAN PRESENTATION SHAMSHIR SWORD WITH INSCRIPTION

Being offered is a beautiful presentation sword from Saudia Arabia. These swords were presentations from the Saudi Royal family to visiting dignitaries, oil employees and anyone else deemed worthy by the family. It is not a combat sword but rather an extremely attractive ceremonial sword that is truly beautiful. The sword has a kilij or shamshir style handle that has lovely wire work and is brightly gold guilded. The scabbard is also covered in wonderful wire decoration and is gold guilded. There is a coin that has come away from the pommel chain that is dated 1928 but I have no pretenses this sword to be that early. The scabbard has the Saudi emblem on it.

The blade is chrome or nickel plated with the same emblem. There is an Arabic inscription a good length on one side of the blade but is presently untranslated.

It comes in its original red velvet storage box. One of the hinges is loose but is an easy repair. They lack the workmanship, gold guilding and overall weight and feel of this one. Of course, these examples are not on the same level as the gold mounted shamshir with antique blades that were presented back in the early 20th century.

Unfortunately, the individual and circumstance of presentation have been lost to history but this is a lovely sword that would display very well. Please view my other auctions for a great variety of swords, daggers and tribal art.
