Oman Bedouin coin-silver Hirz receptacle and chain. Unmarked Omani Hirz necklace tests as coin silver. Probably made from Maria Theresa thalers. Hung with bells and beaded crescent shaped charm pendants. The Hirz has a removable cover on the left hand side, in which to place a Koran text or a prayer to protect its wearer.
The box is beautifully decorated with applied diamonds, bead and braided wirework. The idiosyncratic articulated chain terminals are found on Hirz originating in Oman (possibly Nizwa).
