RARE OTTOMAN ISLAMIC 18TH-19TH CENTURY KALKAN IRON, CANE & WEAVE WAR SHIELD 1800. This is the real deal - a sturdy construction in the original style used by the Ottoman and Mughal warriors as early as in the 15th century. The cane is covered with woven wool or other fiber - domed form reinforced with thick steel / iron bars and protruding rivets - the rim, all around and underneath the iron is bound with leather. These small-sized shields were used to divert sword and spear attacks, as well as for punching, using the conic form and heavy construction.
