Scarce and seldom encountered example of the Turkish officer's sword which is most likely to date from around mid to late 1800s, probably of German manufacture, having silvered brass mounts showing light wear and fine checkered ebony grip having one old split along the edge but remaining solid and intact with the blade and the rest of the hilt. Mounted with a straight single edged large fullered blade which exhibits heavy patina and areas of fine pitting, does not show any markings although possibly some hidden under the clam shell guard. The lion head pommel and top of the ebony grip bearing matching markings of "98".
Solid overall with light bend to the D-guard and an extra nail shoved inside the pommel to secure the tang cap, looks to have been done very very long time ago, possibly while the sword was still in service.
