Antique Seljuk Ceramic Bowl or Cup, 12th Century CE; Height: 2 1/8" // 5.4 cm;Diameter: 4" // 10.2cmDiameter Base Rim 1 3/8 // 3.5 cmOpening/Mouth: 3/4-inch // 1.9 cmDelicate and rare, gracefully shaped Seljuk ceramic cup or small bowl, 12th CE. With a four petal blossom painted in dark blue glaze at the center, and a fineline half way up the interior. The rim is decorated with with narrow line of glazerendered with tiny serrations on the inside. Both the "equator" of the bowl / cupand the based are pierced with tiny perforations filled with transparent glaze in the well-known "rice-work" pattern.
The rice-work in the base is tinged with cobalt-blue glaze from the rendering of the aforementioned blue flower. A very rare and ancient survivor. Minor cracks, chips, fills, and restorations consistent with age.
