SYRIAN BRASS PICTURE FRAME, SILVER & COPPER INLAY, DAMASCUS LATE 19TH C. This beautiful antique Syrian picture frame was made in Damascus in the late 19. The frame is brass with silver and copper inlay. While Damascus bowls and plates arent uncommon, it is fairly unusual to see a Damascus picture frame! The frame is stylised as an arched window with two hinged doors that open up.
The picture would have been placed behind the doors, allowing for them to open and reveal! The doors are adorned with beautiful inlay shapes and Arabic writing. Tiny handles jutting out of each door allows them to be opened.
The frame too has beautiful shapes and Arabic writing running around the sides. Geometric and floral designs sit in the corners.
The frame is in the shape of a house, with straight sides and base and a triangular top. Two feathered birds with long tails sit facing one another. The workmanship on the feathers is stunning, and theres a great contrast between the different colours of inlay.A fantastic antique Syrian brass picture frame! Please message me with any queries.
