Dates from the 19th Century or possibly earlier. The plaque is offered in excellent original condition without loss, damage or restoration. There is a small glaze loss to the face but believe this has blown in firing. There are a few minor surface marks and some minor fritting around the base rim although these are only mentioned for absolute accuracy. A stunning example and a wonderful addition to any serious collection! Fresh to the market we offer this stunning antique Islamic, probably Damascan, decorated with a seated figure in local costume and smoking a pipe dating from the 19th century or possibly earlier. The oval shaped stoneware plaque has a raised central panel with a leaf design painted around the edge and portrays the figure of a seated man wearing an elaborate hat and costume smoking a pipe with pyramid style forms in the background. The panel is hand painted in shades of blue and turquoise and the plaque has painted marks to the back.
