Beautiful example of the Ottoman fighting shamshir or kilij saber dating from the 18th or 19th century era and wearing a massive broad blade with three spinal fullers to each side showing interesting light patterns inside the fullers of possible pattern welded damascus steel, front side adorned with gold damascened calligraphy of Islamic Koranic script and possibly indication of the maker or owner of this impressive weapon. Blade exhibits nice rich patina smoothly distributed throughout its length and colossal width.

Steel mounts profusely decorated with gold koftgari ornaments, grips of traditional bulbous pommel form and of desirable noble material (Not wood) having brass side straps and iron rivets. Solid and intact overall, comes with its original thin leather over wood scabbard having iron mounts with traces of silver koftgari decorations. Blade 29 1/2" and just under 2" in width.
